Good news for Stourport Basins

12th Sep 2006

British Waterways has today announced the latest good news for the development of Stourport’s Canal Basins with the sale of The Tontine, situated on the riverfront in Stourport-upon-Severn, to Raybone Developments Ltd.

As one of the most important Georgian buildings in Worcestershire and a huge part of Stourport’s heritage, The Tontine now has a secure future in which it will be redeveloped and retain its exceptional position on Stourport's river front. The next step for The Tontine will be to secure planning permission in order for it to be converted into 14 residential units.

This Grade II listed building, currently on the Buildings at Risk Register, has stood empty for many years but will now be sympathetically restored to re-embrace its historic character and stature.

Adrian Middleton, British Waterways Central Shires Estates Manager says; "For the past five years we have been working to find a suitable developer for The Tontine, who’d secure a long term future for the building while maintaining its historic status. Due to their record of developing listed buildings, we believe Raybone Developments Ltd is the correct company to develop The Tontine. We look forward to seeing this wonderful building back in use during the next few years."
