Local ale in full flow at Goytre Wharf

18th Sep 2006

Visitors to Goytre Wharf will taste the good time on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September at the historic venue’s first Beer & Arts Festival.

Between 11am and 4pm this popular attraction on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal will showcase an array of excellent local ales, together with the work of local artists and craftspeople.

Aimed very much at families, the Festival features a non-alcoholic cocktail bar for children, a bouncy castle, arts and craft activities and face painting.

Live music will add to the laid back atmosphere, as visitors relax by the canal. There are plenty of good spots for a picnic, and the Waterside Rest café will serve food throughout the day.

Organised by British Waterways as part of its programme of regular events at Goytre Wharf, the Festival is a celebration of everything local, and entry is free.

Pam Griffiths, Economic and Social Development Officer, British Waterways, Wales and Border Counties, said "British Waterways is keen to support local businesses, and what better way to do it than through an enjoyable weekend alongside the Mon & Brec.

"We are fortunate to have a huge range of high quality cottage industries in this area, so we’ve invited an eclectic mix of woodturners, jewellery-makers, artists and potters to display their work at Goytre Wharf. There’ll be something for everyone," she added.
