Climbing mountains for charity

An intrepid group from West Midlands Waterways scaled the heights of success when they raised nearly £1,700 for charity with a sponsored mountain climb.
The team, who help care for more than 260 miles of canals in the West Midlands region, were joined by friends and partners for the trek in the Lake District on September 16 to raise funds for Water Aid. They split up into four teams for the climb near Keswick, with two teams tackling Great Dodd and two teams tackling Pillar. After a lot of hard work and great determination, all were successful in completing the challenge.
The money raised will now go to help Water Aid provide safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene for the world’s poorest people.
Environmental scientist Helen Proffitt who organised the event said it was a great success: “We had glorious weather for the event itself and there was a real feeling of team spirit as we battled our way to the top of the mountains. Water Aid is a really worthy cause and I’m delighted that we managed to gain so much support both from within West Midlands Waterways and outside for this event.”
