Following the success of the photography exhibition Northamptonshire’s Canals in Photographs which was held at The Guildhall in Northampton from the 18th – 22nd September, it has been decided that the exhibition will travel around the county for three weeks.
For those who missed the opportunity to see the exhibition at The Guildhall, all is not lost. It is currently on display at South Northamptonshire Council Offices in Towcester until Friday 13th October 2006. From there it will travel to Daventry where it will be displayed in the Council Offices until Friday 20th October.
A group of local photographers have spent the past six months out and about capturing stunning views of Northamptonshire’s diverse and colourful waterways. The exhibition proved extremely popular in Northampton, one visitor commented "I had no idea Northamptonshire had all of these beautiful places to visit."
The exhibition, which will run for a further three weeks, is free to visitors and has been organised by the Northamptonshire Canal Partnership, a working relationship between British Waterways, South Northants Council, Daventry District Council and Northampton Borough Council.
The Northampton Camera Club have been busy taking photographs of the county’s canals since springtime. The photographs, which capture Northamptonshire’s diverse landscape as the canal snakes from Welford in the north to Cosgrove in the south, include shots of the rural Oxford Canal, the popular Grand Union Canal and the Northampton Arm as it weaves its way into urban Northampton.
Ann Payne of the Northampton Camera Club says: "We are delighted with the variety of photographs that we have produced. Having the canal as the subject of the exhibition gave us a chance to display the wide range of skills of the members of the Camera Club."
The exhibition, of over 45 original prints, includes photographs of both the people and wildlife that live on the canal as well as some fascinating scenes of canal life, boating and fishing.
Jo Neill of the Northamptonshire Canal Partnership said: "The varied nature of the canal in Northamptonshire has meant that the photographs the group have produced are extremely varied, and the exhibition really evokes the atmosphere of the canal as a vibrant and interesting part of our heritage."
