Ferry Meadows Country Park
Peterborough
Cambridgeshire
The huge Nene Park in Peterborough - of which Ferry Meadows is the focal point - occupies in all some 500 acres of meadows, lakes and woods and runs for around six miles alongside the River Nene, offering cycling, walking, kite-flying, pony riding, nature-spotting and fishing. Not only that, but there are substantial facilities for various water sports here on the River Nene and its associated ponds and lakes - including water-skiing, rowing, dinghy and board sailing. Boat trips are available on the River Nene (Key Ferry Cruises: 01933 680743).
The preserved Nene Valley Steam Railway (01780 784444) running from Yarwell Junction to Peterborough - and the current home to children's' favourite tank engine Thomas - has a station stop at Ferry Meadows.
