Liverpool

Home of the Beatles, Liverpool is a city of international renown boasting a famous waterfront, celebrated art galleries and some top heritage attractions.

In recent years, the re-development of Albert Dock has created a vibrant, cosmopolitan quarter, spearheading the regeneration of Liverpool's famous docklands, and the central plank in Liverpool's successful bid to be named European Capital of Culture for 2008. Access by boat is only from the River Mersey at present. However, there are plans to extend the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to the Albert Dock via the Liverpool Canal Link.

Walking to work in Liverpool
Workers in Liverpool city centre are lucky to spend their days near one of England’s most impressive rivers – the River Mersey. Commuters alighting at Brunswick Station enjoy a morning stroll past the docks on their way to offices off Water Street, while those coming into James Street and Moorfields Station can still partake of a waterside walk en-route to lunch in Albert Dock.

A little further north, the flow of workers coming into and out of Sandhills and Bank Hall Stations enjoy scenic shortcuts along (or across) the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

Days out by the canal and river
Shopping, museums, art galleries, loft living, bar culture, eateries and top night spots - Albert Dock has the lot. What’s more, it’s all by the water: the famous docks, the River Mersey, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and soon the Liverpool Canal Link are all a stone’s throw away.

In 2008, Liverpool’s shopaholics will be invited to worship at a new shrine: Liverpool One is a colossal new retail development planned right beside Albert Dock – so you’ll be able to take a relaxing waterside stroll after emerging from the hustle and bustle of the sales.

Those hoping to burn off a few calories in the gym at the Elaine Norris Sports Centre can get a head start with a power walk there along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
