Bude
People have been flocking to the traditional seaside town of Bude since Victorian times.
Once notorious for wreckers, who plundered the ships coming to grief off the rugged coast, Bude is now a well-known holiday resort famed for its beaches, its rural walks and the engineering feat of the Bude Canal.
Not so much one canal as a whole waterway network, Cornwall's Bude Canal is a fascinating relic of the industrial age. The barge canal remains in water to this day, and though its two inland locks are no longer in operation, the sea lock has recently been restored and sea-going boats can once again pass onto the Bude Canal. Canoeists, walkers and anglers also find pleasure in the scenic waterway.
