Set back from the shores of Grasmere, Dove Cottage, Wordsworth's home during his most creative years, is beautifully preserved. The garden, 'a little nook of mountain ground', is open, weather permitting. The award-winning Wordsworth Museum displays manuscripts, portraits, paintings and memorabilia. Lively Poetry Readings and Contemporary Art Exhibitions are also held throughout the year. Visit the excellent Book & Gift Shop, or stop for cake and a cup of tea in the Dove Cottage Tea Room.
