Rydal Mount and Gardens, 'most beloved home' of William Wordsworth, lies between Ambleside and Grasmere on the A591, overlooking Lake Windermere. The home belongs to descendants of the poet, containing portaits, personal possessions and first editions of his works. The garden, landscaped by the poet, consists of gentle paths along hillside terraces with rare shrubs and seasonal flowers, providing a spectacular display of colour. An excellent book and gift shop.
