Cycling is an exhilarating way to discover the waterscapes of Durham. Kielder Water boasts 13 waymarked trails and 27 miles of shoreline – so there’s something for every level of cyclist. Alternatively, you can pedal along the rural River Tees on the National Cycle Network or follow the footpaths beside the River Tyne.

Towpath Stoppages

04 Jan 2012 - 09 Mar 2012

Stoppage: Cosgrove Iron Trunk Aqueduct

Associated Regional Office: South East Waterways

Towpath has been closed

UPDATE (17 January 2012): The works to the aqueduct are now being carried out without dewatering the canal. However, boats being used by the contractor will be blocking the canal to navigation.
It is possible that limited passage may be possible, but British Waterways are unable to guarantee this.
For the purposes of journey planning please assume the canal is closed.
