The Bridgewater Canal with its magnificent Barton Swing Aqueduct offers boaters a truly novel experience as its 28 miles are possibly more famous for innovation than scenery. Alternatively, for lock enthusiasts (or those on a fitness drive), the Rochdale Canal transports you through a series of locks until you reach 600 feet above sea level.
