Walking near Uppermill
Walking is always one of the best ways to get close to any city and Greater Manchester offers a variety of walking routes for waterway lovers to make the most of. There’s a choice of heritage trails taking in the historical sites of the former industrial heart of Manchester and for those looking for what the modern day city has to offer there’s a city trail.
If you want to get further away from it all, the Rochdale Canal towpath is one of the more accessible ways to view the countryside. There’s also a number of waymarked trails crossing the canal including the Todmorden Centenary Way and Oldham Way.

Towpath Closure only: Hilperton
Associated Regional Office: Kennet & Avon WaterwaysThe towpath between Thestfield Drive (Bridge 167, Parson Bridge)and Marsh Road (Bridge 166, Hilperton Road Bridge) at Hilperton Marsh shall be closed from Friday 18th May until Wednesday 30th May. This length of towpath is approximately 700m in length. The towpath closure is to allow essential engineering works to take place to Culvert 68. A diversion route shall be along Hammond Way, located to the east of the canal.
British Waterways apologises for any inconvenience caused as a result of this towpath closure.
