Image for Hatfield House

Built between 1607 and 1611, Hatfield House was originally home to the Bishops of Ely. It was built by Robert Cecil, and has stayed in his family ever since. Robert was the 1st Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to James I and was person who uncovered and halted the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

Rooms in the magnificent house play host to a wealth of paintings, furniture, tapestries and armour. There are also the extensive gardens which are full of blooming, colourful flowers and plant-life. The gardens date back to the early 17th century and have recently been lovingly recreated to reflect how it originally looked. A children’s play area can keep the children entertained for hours.

Why not take a walk around the stunning grounds and through the magnificent gardens? There are excellent disabled facilities which mean the entire house and most of the park and gardens can be accessed by anyone in a wheelchair.

Picnic spots around the site mean that you can make a trip to Hatfield House a full day out.
