As recorded by the Doomsday Book in 1086, the original owners of the Broxbourne Mill were the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. However, they lost the ownership in 1544 and it was passed to John Cook, a local miller. This was not the last time that the mill was to change its owner.

Over the years, the function, and owners, of the mill continually changed. Up until 1892, it was used to grind corn into flour. In 1919, the water turbine was restored and this meant that the owner was able to produce auxiliary power. For a complete change, the 1940s saw the mill being used purely for factory storage space.
Unfortunately, on 1 October 1949, a blazing fire resulted in the mill being burnt to the ground.
Today, all that remains of the once magnificent mill is the 16-Century brickwork and the window frames of a 19-Century miller's house that was restored by the Lee Valley Park.
