Walking near Tring

Walking along the Grand Union Canal in Tring

The towpaths of the River Lee and River Stort provide a continuous, traffic free route through rural countryside, rich industrial and urban green space. There are many circular walks linking the towpath and surrounding countryside, usually signposted with distinctive waymarkers. The towpath of the Grand Union Canal provides a pleasant walk through increasingly rural surroundings – and ideally placed train stations allow you to put your feet up on the return journey.

The Bricket Wood Residents’ Association together with the Bricket Wood Society have published a book of circular walks around Bricket Wood, which follow the rivers Ver and Colne. Copies can be purchased for £3.50 (plus 80p P+P) from: Bricket Wood Residents’ Association and the Bricket Wood Society, c/o St. Stephen Parish Council, Parish Centre, Station Road, Bricket Wood, St.Albans, Herts, AL2 2PJ (01923 681443).
