Dunchraigaig Cairn

Highlands and Islands

The Standing Stones at Ballymeanoch and their associated cairn, kerb cairn, stone alignments and henge can all be accessed from Dunchraigaig Cairn - a Bronze Age site dating back to the 2nd millennium BC - with some of the covering stones removed, showing three burial cists.

The tallest of the Standing Stones is some 4m (13ft) high, and two stones are decorated with cup marks. In the same field is a henge - a mysterious structure whose function is not rightly known but is speculated to be for ceremonial purposes.
