Achnabreck Cup & Ring Marked Rocks

Highlands and Islands

Prehistoric rock carvings, some produced as much as 5,000 years ago, can be found at many locations in the Kilmartin Glen area. They are small round indentations called cup marks, sometimes surrounded by single or multiple rings or spirals. The site at Achnabreck contains the largest cluster of such carvings anywhere in Britain. No conclusive answers have been given to the questions of their origins or purpose.
