Cairnbaan Cup and Ring Markings

Highlands and Islands

Rock art was widespread in continental Europe and Scandinavia in the Neolithic and Bronze Ages - abstract designs with flowing, concentric patterns, sometimes featuring axes and animals.

The distribution of rock art in Britain and Ireland is concentrated on the Atlantic coastline - the Kilmartin area containing some of the most impressive examples in the country. The marks at Cairnbaan are within an easy walk of the Cairnbaan Hotel.
