Image for Carnassarie Castle

Situated on a ridge to the north of Kilmartin village lies Carnassarie Castle, now a well preserved ruin in the care of Historic Scotland. The Castle was built between 1565 and 1572 by John Carswell, Bishop of the Isles and incorporates finely carved stonework, the most elaborate of which is to be found in the panel above the entrance doorway.
