Rochester is a large Kentish town which enjoys an enviable location on the banks of the River Medway.

Rochester has always benefited from its waterside locale. In centuries past, its position near the confluence of the Thames and the Medway granted it great strategic importance. Today, visitors arriving at Rochester Station (just a short train ride from the Capital) are well met by the curve of the River Medway – which they can follow round to Rochester Castle and the tourist information centre.

Rochester is well known in literary circles thanks to the patriotism of Charles Dickens. The town features in Pickwick Papers, Great Expectations and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
