Garstang

Fishing in the Lancaster Canal, Garstang. Photographer Tony Boughen

Garstang enjoys a beneficial location on the banks of both the Lancaster Canal and the River Wyre – meaning boaters can enjoy a trip over John Rennie’s Garstang Aqueduct as they head out of town towards Bilsborrow.

A number of welcoming pubs and restaurants, not to mention well-stocked local shops, make Garstang a likely stop-off on any boating holiday along the Lancaster Canal. Th’Owd Tithe Barn is a favourite canalside watering hole – but passing boaters can also enjoy a pint in the Farmers’ Arms just down the road.

Garstang’s anglers get away from it all with an afternoon fishing on the Lancaster Canal. Greenhaigh Castle, close to bridge 58 and just south of Garston, provides a picturesque location to cast your line.
