The Martin Mere Wetland Centre is a nature reserve that's home to a wide range of endangered waterfowl, playing host to over 100 rare species of duck, geese, swan and flamingo.
As well as waterfowl, Martin Mere currently houses four European beavers – the first to return to Lancashire in 500 years.
The Wetland Centre puts on daily exhibitions and activities all year round, such as pond-dipping for kids and guided tours through the outdoor nursery, where visitors get the chance to see hatching waterfowl. Visitors receive a truly interactive experience when they come to Martin Mere Wetland Centre, with the opportunity to hand-feed many exotic species of birds.
For those that prefer to stay behind the scenes though, the Harrier Hide looks out onto the reserve’s reedbeds giving great views of the surrounding birds in their natural environment. The Mere itself is a spectacular sight, covering 150 hectares it is often visited by thousands of swans and geese.
With a children’s adventure playground, waterfowl gardens and plenty of beautiful countryside to explore, Martin Mere Wetland Trust is the ideal wildlife attraction for families and children of all ages.
