The Grand Union Canal flows through the market town of Loughborough.

A small town north of Leicester, Loughborough gains colour and vibrancy from its traditional markets and from the green corridor created by the Grand Union Canal as it carves a path from Loughborough Moors through the eastern edge of the town towards Normanton on Soar.

En route, the canal passes close by Loughborough Station (so commuters can enjoy a green and pleasant start to the day with a walk along the towpath) and numerous waterside pubs (for that all important pint on the way home).

Loughborough is also known for the Great Central Railway – the only main line steam railway in the UK. Experience the romance of the steam age with a gourmet meal aboard a first class carriage or take afternoon tea on your own private train. For a quieter day out in Loughborough, follow the winding Grand Union Canal out towards Loughborough Moors and enjoy a waterside picnic.
