Thames Lock is the western junction between the Grand Union Canal and the tidal River Thames at Brentford. Any boat wishing to pass through Thames Lock must give 24 hours' notice by telephoning 020 8560 1120. Passage is only possible for a couple of hours either side of high tide.
Other nearby attractions include Brentford Marina, the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew (020 8332 5655), Kew Green and its pubs, Kew Bridge Steam Museum (020 8568 4757), Syon House & Park (020 8560 0881) with grounds landscaped by Capability Brown and the London Butterfly House, and also the picturesque riverside walk and popular pubs of Strand-on-the-Green (north bank, east of Kew Bridge).
