The Borough Market covers an area in excess of four acres and is the only remaining wholesale and retail food market in central London. It originated with the coming of the Romans and thereafter existed on the old London Bridge from the 11th century, following which it moved at some time to Borough High Street.
The Market is historically famous as a fruit and vegetable market, but now also operates both a weekly gourmet food retail market and currently eight specialist food retailing outlets. Producers from all over the country bring a range of fresh produce to the market, including; fish, meats, vegetables, ciders, cheeses, breads, coffees, cakes and patisseries.
It has a lively atmosphere and you can also find some of the finest produce around. Come and see for yourself!
