In the heart of the east end of London, Victoria Park (known locally as ‘Vicky’ Park) was opened in 1845 and named after the monarch at the time, Queen Victoria.
Bursting with trees from oaks to hawthorns, the park is home to an Old English Garden, attracting plant-lovers drawn to its colourful flowers and shrubs. The magnificent lake, with its own working fountain, is also worth a visit and it might be a good idea to take your camera.
Keep children entertained with a trip to the deer enclosure before heading on to the children’s playground where they can run around to their heart’s content.
Victoria Park is an ideal place to keep fit - home to the Victoria Park Harriers & Tower Hamlets Athletics Club, you can watch the athletes train or, throughout the summer, join the Victoria Park Community Cricket League who host cricket games each evening.
For exercise at a slower pace, take a walk around the park and make your way to the towpath of the Hertford Union Canal which makes its way along the south side of the park, before meeting the Regent’s Canal to the west. Spot the wildlife along the way and wave to the boaters cruising along the canal. If two wheels are more your thing, grab your bike and cycle along the towpath.
