A splendid Georgian Manor House is surrounded by the colourful and beautifully scented Capel Manor Gardens.
There is plenty to see in the 30 acres which surround the house, including:
- 30 acres of richly planted theme gardens, including Historical Gardens
- Italianate Maze
- Japanese Garden
- Gardening Which? Magazine demonstration and theme gardens
- The National Gardening Centre with specially designed gardens
There is also a vsitor's centre (The Hessayon Centre) which has a garden gift shop and floristry training shop.
Group visits and guided walks are available by arrangement with special rates. Throughout the year, there is a full and varied programme of shows and events, leisure gardening classes.
A selection of refreshments are availablr in the Oborn Refectory where visitors are able to sit, relax and enjoy watching the famous Clydesdale Horses, which work and exercise in the grounds.
Information can be obtained from 'Animal Corner', which is staffed between 10am and 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
Guided tours can be taken to the Animal Unit and Reptile Room at 11:30am; 3:20pm and 4:00pm.
There is disabled access around most paths of the estate, including toilets and refectory with ramps and firm surfaces where possible. Free wheelchair loan is available, and this needs to be booked. The gardens offer free entry for wheelchair assistants/pushers/carers. Some of the gardens are specifically designed for wheelchair use.
