Cefn Flight (Fourteen Locks)
Monmouthshire
This derelict flight of 14 locks is currently the focus of attempts to restore the unnavigable Crumlin Arm of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.
This dramatic flight of narrow and very deep locks is a significant engineering feat, and features a unique and complex series of interdependent pounds.
There is a Canal Heritage Centre at High Cross, adjacent to the top lock which has recently been restored. Further restoration plans for the canal involve disinterring the waterway from its shallow grave in Cwmbran, involving construction of a new aqueduct at Green Meadow Way and also the creation of Crindau Marina - a waterside housing, retail and leisure development near Malpas in Newport.
