Hickling is the largest of Norfolk's Broads. Hickling Broad National Nature Reserve is an internationally important wetland habitat.
Endangered species such as the marsh harrier, bittern and swallowtail butterfly, as well as summer visitors like the spoonbill, are to be found in its grassland and marshes.
Walking trails include the Swallowtail Trail (30mins, suitable for wheelchairs) and the Bittern Trail (50mins). The Weavers Way national long-distance path runs through the reserve. The visitor centre is open every day, Easter to September. Hickling Windsurfing Club is also based on the Broad. Both How Hill Nature Reserve and Potter Heigham - with its shops, tourist amenities and information centre - are close by.
