The museum details the fascinating history of the Broads - both through the history of those who have lived and worked the area, and also by detailing the development of the Broads into the modern leisure and environmental resource it is today.
Follow the story from its earliest beginnings with the medieval peat diggings, which began the creation of the shallow lakes that we now know as the Broads, right up to modern times as a vibrant tourist and recreational centre. Find out about thatching, sail and rope making, eel catching, reed cutting, mill wrighting and boat building. And see the fascinating collection of Broads boats including the only concrete dinghy ever built, an ice yacht and gun punts complete with their surprisingly large weapons.
The museum is situated in historic buildings at Stalham Staithe in Stalham, a classic and very attractive broadland market town.
