Potter Heigham

Norfolk

Image for Potter Heigham

Pronounced locally as 'Potter Ham', this is one of the liveliest tourist centres on the Broads. It kicked off as a leisure destination with the founding of the Herbert Woods boatyard in 1928. Also notable for its arched medieval bridge which, if not the lowest on The Broads, is certainly the most difficult to navigate. Note that a pilot is required for passage by holiday hire boats.

A good place to just wander about; watch novice navigators trying to keep their boats intact as they pass under the bridge. There is an information centre, shops and the famous Lathams store, too. Potter Heigham village proper is about half a mile north of the bridge. How Hill Nature Reserve, Hickling Broad Nature Reserve and Hickling Broad Windsurfing Club are nearby.
