Berney Arms is tucked away in a remote corner of the Broads, at the northwestern extreme of Breydon Water at the head of Tile Kiln Reach.
At 70 feet, the High Mill windmill is one of the tallest on the Broads. It was built in the latter part of the 19th century to grind cement, although latterly it was used for pumping water from the surrounding marshes.
Also here are the Berney Arms Inn, and the RSPB birdlife nature reserve. It's also on the route of the Weaver's Way, Norfolk's long-distance path. Although there is a famously lonely railway station - and, of course, you can get there by boat - there is no road access. Access by car will involve at least a two-mile walk across the marshes from any direction, from Halvergate, Reedham, Wickhampton or Great Yarmouth.
