Chirk Castle, completed in 1310, is a Marcher castle from the reign of King Edward I. Inside you can visit the elegant state rooms, family apartments, servants' quarters and even the dungeons. Furniture is in the Adam style, there are tapestries and portraits and some lovely detailing in the plasterwork.

The beautiful gardens have clipped yews, roses and climbers up the walls of the castle. They contain a thatched 'Hawk House' and a rock garden, as well as a number of rare trees and shrubs. There's also an avenue lined with 400 year-old lime trees.

This is all set in stunning 18th Century parklands. The property is still lived in by members of the Myddelton family, whose ancestororiginally bought the estate in 1595.
