This small village is steeped with Royal connections.

The long vanished castle was the birthplace of Richard III, the execution place of Mary Queen of Scots and the church is the resting place of some members of The House of York.

Little is left of the castle over looking the River Nene. A mound marks the site where the original motte and bailey stood with a plaque commemorating the death of Mary. It was after her trail and execution in the Great Hall in 1587 that the castle began to fall into disrepair. Villagers helped themselves to the castle and many stone buildings in the surrounding areas are built from the former walls.

The large church with its beautiful tower still stands, although with its original choir removed. Sadly the famous stained glass windows are no more, though a memorial window to the House of York was unveiled in 1982.
