The River Tweed has long enjoyed an international reputation as a salmon fishery – catching more Atlantic salmon than any river in the European Union. Angling for trout is also a popular pastime in Northumberland; sea trout, non-migratory trout and some coarse species can be caught on the River Wansbeck.
