The birthplace of Thomas Bewick, Cherryburn has been preserved by the National Trust and lovingly restored to the way it was in when Thomas was born in 1753.

Before his death in 1828, Bewick had become one of Northumberland's most popular artists, spending much of his time engraving wood.

A more modern 19th century farmhouse closeby, which later became the home of the Bewick family, now houses an exhibition about Thomas' life and also has a shop where visitors can buy books, gifts and prints from his original engravings. Visitors can also enjoy printing and engraving demonstrations in the barn adjoining the farmhouse.
