Iffley Lock
Oxfordshire
This famous one-and-a-half mile stretch of the River Thames between Folly Bridge and Iffley Lock passing by Christ Church Meadow - known to locals and college students as The Isis - is great for walking, jogging, cycling or rowing. It's also the site of the fiercely contested twice-yearly college rowing regattas. Iffley Lock Towpath Bridge is a reduced scale copy of the famous Newton's Bridge at Queen's College, Cambridge. Nearby: all the tourist and shopping attractions of the famous college town of Oxford. Oxford is also home to the marvellous art and antiquity treasures of The Ashmolean Museum (entry free, 01865 278000) and to Britain's oldest botanical gardens Oxford University Botanic Gardens (entry £2, 01865 286690).
