Mapledurham House was built in the Middle Ages when the estate was in the hands of the Lyndes family. When Sir Michael Blount built the present, much larger house, he kept a large proportion of the timber-framed house that the Lyndes family had lived in.

The current owner of Mapledurham House, which is located close to the River Thames, acquired it when the Blount family died out in 1943.

The Mapledurham Trust run the house today.

Near to the house lies a medieval church which was restored by architect William Butterfield and a late 15th century watermill. In full working order, the watermill's produce, flour and bran, can be bought in the gift shop.
