The Textile Museum is housed in an early 19th Century weaving shop, originally six cottages, and now three back-to-back, over three floors. They would originally have housed six families who would have worked in the weaving shop.

The museum, a tribute to this industry, opened to the public in 1967. In more recent years, and thanks to a National Heritage Lottery grant in 1999, much restoration and preservation work has been executed. Today's exhibition gives and interesting and accurate depiction of the history, processes and impact of the woollen and flannel industry on Newtown, between 1790 and the beginning of the 20th century.
