The museum on its present warehouse site has been open to the public since 1990 and in 1993 won the Gulbenkian Award for 'most improved museum in a rural area'.
It illustrates the history and development of life in Montgomeryshire from the earliest prehistoric settlers to the 20th century population, with examples of farming machinery, the development of the local canal, archaeological and social history galleries.
