Rutland Water's main nature reserve is both family-friendly and a paradise for birdwatchers.

All sorts of birds have been sighted here - ospreys and oystercatchers, snipe and shelduck, turtle doves, tufted ducks and teal. Situated just outside the village of Egleton, it is such a valuable site for wildlife that the British Bird Watching Fair takes place here every year.

An intricate network of paths leads the visitor to 14 hides from where the birds can be discreetly viewed. With an estimated 20,000 waterfowl at Rutland Water, there is always something to see.

Craft activities, courses, talks and fun days are organised throughout the year.
