The only park on Rutland Water's pretty south shore, Normanton is rich in history and bursting with activities.

Cycle hire is available here; the walks across Empingham Dam are easy and rewarding; and Rutland Sailing Club is nearby. The outstanding landmark at Normanton is the sunken church, a building too delightful to be inundated when the reservoir was constructed, but too low to survive as a functioning church. So its lower level was infilled, and it stands proud on a promontory jutting into the water, a testament to the "Don't Flood Rutland" campaign of 25 years ago.
