Market Drayton

Boats moored on Shropshire Union Canal

Known for its eponymous street market and fabulous gingerbread, Market Drayton is a pretty waterside town – offering scenic walks along the Shropshire Union Canal.

Holiday-makers can hire their narrowboat from Market Drayton (and stock up on rum-laced gingerbread for the journey). The town is also a popular stop-off for boaters en-route to and from Audlem who can tie up and take advantage of the service station and short walk to the historic town centre. But Market Drayton is not just a playground for boat-lovers; anglers are also well served with three well-stocked fisheries within walking distance.

A street market – so good the town was named after it – runs every Wednesday. Locals stock up on local produce and then walk home along the Shropshire Union Canal.
