17th century manor with an unexpected collection of contemporary art.
The 17th century mansion does not disappoint with a grand facade, large windows and pleasing front lawns. Beyond the red-brick frontage, an intriguing assortment of intimate family chambers and elegant state rooms await exploration.
Amidst the typical country house paraphernalia of fine furniture and Dutch flower paintings, it is somewhat surprising to come across a bold collection of contemporary art by the likes of Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. However, pioneering ideas are not new to Dudmaston. In the early 19th century, Georgiana Wolryche-Whitmore of Dudmaston married the mathematician Charles Babbage, an erudite man credited with inventing the forerunner of modern computers.
Outside, the colourful gardens boast a lake and delightful views to the Clee Hills. Visitors can enjoy a scenic stroll in the Dingle, a wooded valley, or a longer walk through the extensive estate.
