Chasewater Reservoir
Chasewater Country Park
Staffordshire
T: 01543 452302
The reservoir was completed in 1800 to supply water to the Wyrley & Essington Canal, and it quickly became a profit-centre for the canal company, selling water to other canals in the BCN area.
Today it is the Chasewater Country Park - 900 acres of open space and water. As well as being an important nature park (including Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs)), there is sailing, water-skiing, sub-aqua diving and fishing.
There are walking and cycling trails, and the site is located on the Beacon Way long-distance path. The two-mile Chasewater Steam Railway operates from the north shore of the reservoir, with steam train trips at weekends and Bank Holidays.
