Consall Wharf, near Froghall Wharf

Located on the Caldon Canal, one of the most picturesque canals in England, Froghall Wharf is just a few miles north of Cheadle in North Staffordshire.

Visitors can enjoy this tranquil treasure, tucked away from the busy streets and surrounded by trees and flowers. Picnic tables make Froghall Wharf a perfect stop-off point for long car journeys and you can also take a walk along the canal, soaking up the beautiful views of the Churnett Valley before stopping for a homemade lunch.

To experience how the Caldon Canal at Froghall Wharf would have been many years ago, when barges from the Potteries would be loaded with limestone, take a cruise with Froghall Wharf Boat Trips. The crew dress in period costume while serving you home-cooked food from mid-May to early September. Why not take a Sunday morning walk along the canal before taking a Sunday lunch cruise? Advance booking is recommended for this popular attraction.

If a boat trip doesn’t appeal, take a bike ride along the canal and work up an appetite before heading to a waterside pub. Start from Froghall Wharf and head to Consall Forge – after about 4km, you will arrive at the Black Lion pub which benefits from a stunning canalside location, and you can enjoy a well-deserved drink and some delicious food.
