Bungay Museum is situated in the small market town of Bungay, along the peaceful River Waveney. The museum is based on the first floor of the Waveney District Council, although a lack of storage and poor access for the elderley and the disabled mean that new premises are currently being sought.
The museum was officially opened in 1963 by Lilias Rider Haggard, whose family donated many items to the museum. It is now home to a collection of coins, artefacts from Norman to Victorian periods, local family relics, fossils, books and much more. Initially, much of the content of the museum was donated by John Gibbs, clerk of the Waveney District Council.
Open all year round, the museum is open from 9:30am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm.
