Napton
Napton (or Napton-on-the-Hill) is a small village near Daventry overlooking the Oxford Canal.
The town is situated on a substantial hill – meaning views are superb. Take a walk along the Oxford Canal (the best access points are bridges 113 and 110) and admire the surrounding patchwork of fields. Just north of Napton a flight of locks climbs around the hill and the Grand Union Canal meets the Oxford, so you can join the ‘gongoozlers’ before heading off. Aim for Napton Windmill – a local landmark dating from 1543 or St Lawrence’s Church back at the top of the hill.
Boaters are well catered for in Napton with two marinas (Wigrams Turn and Napton Narrowboats) and good facilities. Moor up and enjoy a canalside pint in The Folly or The Bridge Inn.
