Delph Flight

This spectacular flight of locks is to be found on the Dudley No.1 Canal between Brierley Hill and Dudley. A short walk from the Merry Hill Shopping Centre at Brierley Hill, you can experience the rural tranquility of the Delph Flight and the cosmopolitan bars, restaurants and shops of The Waterfront at Merry Hill - all in an afternoon!

Delph is a great place to visit for a tranquil picnic, walk or just to visit the canalside pub. Although known as 'Delph Nine Locks', there are in fact only eight, because seven of the closely-grouped flight were replaced with six new chambers following subsidence in 1858. You can still find the overgrown original locks if you look carefully.

The final lock forms the junction between the Dudley No.1 Canal and the Stourbridge Canal. Raised water overflow points on the locks create spectacular waterfalls when the canal is high in water.
