This canal basin at the southern end of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal lies in the heart of historic Stratford, home to nearly all things Shakespearian. See where the famous bard lived, or where he now resides in Holy Trinity Church - or perhaps take in a performance of one of his works at the Royal Shakespeare Company's world-renowned waterside theatre.

Stratford itself can lay claim to be one of Britain's first 'new' towns, but it's no Milton Keynes. In fact, it was laid out on a medieval grid street plan in 1196, and this charming historic town is a major international tourist destination featuring many ancient black-and-white timber-framed buildings as well as a wealth of local restaurants, pubs, gift shops and other leisure facilities. Stratford-upon-Avon also makes an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds and the Malverns, or to visit Blenheim Palace or Warwick Castle.
